FAQs

Candle Care + Wick Trimming

To extend the life of your candle and ensure a clean burn, always trim the wick to ¼” before lighting. A long wick burns hotter, using up the candle faster and potentially causing soot. For best results, burn your candle for 3-4 hours at a time. On the first use, let the wax melt all the way to the edges to prevent tunneling. Never leave a candle burning unattended, and keep it away from drafts, pets, or children. If the flame gets too high or the container feels hot, extinguish, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight!

What are Scent Notes?

Candles have three key types of scent notes: top, middle, and base. The top note is the first scent you notice when you initially burn the candle or smell it unlit. As the candle burns, the middle notes, also called heart notes, emerge after the top fades. Finally, the base notes come through as the candle burns down and reaches a full melt pool, revealing the deeper scents. Together, the middle and base notes create the true essence of the candle's fragrance.

Why Coconut Soy Wax?

For me, quality and safety are top priorities. In my search for the best wax, I discovered Virgin Coconut Soy wax, a vegan, plant-based blend of natural soy and coconut. Its creamy appearance, clean burn, and consistent wax consumption make it ideal for premium candles. At The Original Good Company, our wax is gluten-free, toxin-free, paraben-free, and phthalate-free, and only FDA-approved waxes are used. So, you can enjoy your candle with peace of mind, knowing it's safe for your home.

Why is wax important?

Most candles are made with a blend of waxes, often soy-paraffin. Paraffin, while offering strong scent throw, is derived from petroleum, which raises concerns about its long-term impact. So, when candles are marketed as "clean," it can be misleading. At The Original Good Company, we chose 100% coconut soy wax—a cleaner, more sustainable option that aligns with our commitment to eco-friendly products.

What’s with the wooden wicks?

Wooden wicks are special! They not only create a gentle crackling sound, but they're also organic, non-toxic, and eco-friendly. Sourced from FSC-certified mills, they’re made in the USA for a sustainable and cozy burn experience.

Can I reuse my container? How?

YES! We encourage you to up-cycle after enjoying your candle. Here's how:  Place your container in the freezer for a few hours.  Once frozen, remove the container and dislodge the remaining wax. Wiggle the wick holder free (this might take a little effort). Clean the container with your favorite cleaning product and just like that, your container is ready for a new purpose!

Ways to Reuse Your O.G. Co. Containers:

Refill with another candle from The O.G. Co., desk or office accessory, pencil holder, or as a mini planter (add a drainage system or drill a hole). Get creative and give your candle containers a second life!
